Lingayat controversy: Religion card or social necessity?

The issue of conferring a status of a religion on the Lingayat community has created a political storm in Karnataka. The opposition is blaming Congress of playing the religion card while the Congress is pointing to BJP's former Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa of raising the same issue during his tenure.
