Loan waiver poll plank for 2019?

The issue of farm loan waiver is said to be one of the main factors which contributed to the victory of Congress in the assembly elections.

On Tuesday, Congress party president Rahul Gandhi made it clear that a loan waiver would be a key issue for the Congress to try and corner the Modi-led BJP government ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In the run up to the assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi had promised to waive the farm loans in the three states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh, within 10 days of coming to power. He cleared the loan waiver within days of assuming power.
