Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the approach of Indian batsmen on Day 1 of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide.
"Well when wickets fall in a heap, why single out one shot. It was disappointing because of the simple fact that... these are all experienced players," Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.
Gavaskar's comments come after India were reduced to 56/4 at lunch on a bright, sunny day in Adelaide that marked the start of a much-anticipated four-Test series.
As Gavaskar pointed out, it was shocking to see the senior pros in the top order pushing at deliveries outside the off-stump and playing into the hands of the opposition.
"If it was a new comer going for those shots not knowing what Australian conditions are, or what kind of bounce there is... that could have been understandable," he added.
"These are all experienced players and they went chasing after balls outside the off-stump," Gavaskar said.
