In this edition of Newstrack, the focus is on the Supreme Court's significant interim order on the Waqf Amendment Act 2025. While the court declined a blanket stay on the law, it froze several key provisions. These include the clause requiring a person to be a practising Muslim for five years to donate property and another that empowered collectors to adjudicate property rights, which the court stated violates the principle of separation of powers. The order also places a cap on the number of non-Muslim members on Central and State Waqf boards. With both the petitioners and the government claiming victory, the programme decodes the ruling's implications. Senior Counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi stated, "I believe we got 70 to 80 percent of the major irritant stayed." The legal battle over the controversial law is far from over.
