Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, saying that "this Bill will alleviate the suffering of many who faced persecution for years."

With a majority of 125 is to 105 the Rajya Sabha passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill on Wednesday after a marathon debate that extended for more than six hours.
