Amid reports of cancellation of celebrations to mark 60 years in exile of the Dalai Lama because of a government directive, the Tibetan government-in-exile has shifted one of the events to Dharamshala and cancelled the other one. Both were to be held in Delhi.
While 'Thank You India' event venue has been moved, the Central Tibetan Administration officials say that a decision to move it was being considered even before the newspaper reports regarding the Cabinet Secretary's directive emerged.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said that Indias position on the Dalai Lama is "clear" and "consistent". The MEA statement said, There is no change in that position. HIs Holiness is accorded all freedom to carry out his religious activities in India.
