The women's reservation bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with an overwhelming majority. 454 members voted in favour of the bill and two were against it. The bill provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The reservation will come into effect only after the completion of the census and delimitation exercise.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders have been calling it as an 'election jumla' contending that it will be effective at the earliest by the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
