The BJP has suspended Manoj Baitha, the man accused of killing nine children in the Muzaffarpur hit-and-run case, for six years, the news agency ANI reported Monday.
Baitha was earlier charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
An FIR was registered against him under several sections, on the the complaint of a family member of one of the children who died.
CCTV footage shows that Baitha was at the wheel when the incident took place. Police are looking for him.
Tejashwi Yadav, a former deputy chief minister of Bihar, alleged that Baitha was drunk when the incident occurred. Leaders from his Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) staged a protest today outside the Bihar Vidhan Sabha, and called for stern action, the Indian Express reported.
