US issues notice of an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods

The United States has issued a public notice for an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, set to be effective from 27th August. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened a high-level meeting to plan support measures for small farmers, MSMEs, and export-driven sectors likely to be hit. Modi reassured entrepreneurs that the government stands firmly with them, vowing to “find a way out despite Washington’s economic pressure.” The talks also flagged what officials called the US’s “duplicity of policy,” pointing to Washington’s growing trade with Russia and tariff relief for China, even as India faces harsher duties.
