NCERT row: Objective revision or hijacking history? Democratic Newsroom debates

In this edition of Democratic Newsroom, the focus is on the debate over NCERT's portrayal of Mughal rulers such as Akbar, Babur, and Aurangzeb. In its new Class 8 textbook, the NCERT described Akbar's regime as a blend of "brutality" and "tolerance", Babur a "ruthless conqueror"  and Aurangzeb a "military ruler" who reimposed taxes on non-Muslims. But after a row erupted over the revision, the NCERT released a statement stating that all of its content is fact-based and aimed at holistic learning. So, the questions we are raising are: is this objective revision or hijacking history?  'Textbook' distraction or course correction?
