A day after the EC barred Mohammed Azam Khan from campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections for 72 hours, the son of the Samajwadi Party leader Abdullah Azam Khan said on Tuesday that his father was banned because he is a Muslim.
Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has been barred from campaigning by the Election Commission (EC) for 72 hours, starting 6 am from Tuesday. He has also been booked by the Rampur police for his derogatory 'khaki underwear comment' against the actor-turned politician Jaya Prada. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly condemned his remark and served a notice to him.
