Students allege detention after calling Barmer collector a 'reel star'

A protest over a fee hike at Multanmal Bhickchand Chhajed Women’s College in Rajasthan’s Barmer has triggered a controversy after students alleged they were detained for calling District Collector Tina Dabi a “reel star.” The protest, held on December 20, saw students and two ABVP-linked leaders demonstrate against a sharp increase in examination fees.

Police later detained a few protesters, citing concerns over public order. However, students claim the action was taken after the protest ended and questioned why they were not stopped earlier if they were at fault. Responding to the controversy, Tina Dabi told India Today that the detention was a routine law-and-order measure following alleged misbehaviour during the protest. The students were released a few hours later.
