President Rule in Puducherry Explained

Puducherry is the latest UT to have been placed under President's rule days after the Congress-led government collapsed after several resignations. The Narayanaswamy-led government fell after failing to show a majority in the House. The confidence motion moved by Narayanasamy was defeated, which brought down the Congress government. Narayanaswamy tendered his resignation right after. But what is a President’s rule? President’s Rule happens when a state government is suspended and the Centre rules it directly. The Governor becomes its constitutional head. In such a situation, the Election Commission is forced to conduct re-election within six months.
