President Murmu appoints new Governors for nine states: How is a Governor different from an LG?

Rajasthan, Telangana, Maharashtra, Punjab, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Assam, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have new governors. These are appointed by the President, who acts on the aid and advice of the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers. But how is a governor different from a lieutenant governor?
