LAPD Releases Report on Shooting of Sikh Man Gurpreet Singh in LA

On July 13, 2025, Los Angeles police shot dead 36-year-old Gurpreet Singh after a dramatic confrontation in the middle of an intersection. Singh, who had stopped his black Mustang and began swinging a sword at pedestrians, was seen performing Gatka, a traditional Sikh martial art, in footage released by the LAPD. Police say Singh ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon, cut his tongue, fled in his vehicle while waving the machete, and later collided with a police car during a chase. The pursuit ended when Singh charged at officers with the weapon, prompting police to open fire.
