Rakul Preet Singh slams Bollywood's paid PR culture: Good work speaks for itself
Rakul Preet Singh has spoken out against Bollywood's growing paid PR culture, calling it negative and unnecessary while asserting that genuine work ultimately finds its own recognition.

Rakul Preet Singh believes that in an age of constant noise and carefully curated headlines, authenticity still carries weight. The actor recently addressed the growing culture of paid publicity in Bollywood, calling it deeply negative and unnecessary, and reiterating her belief that consistent, honest work ultimately finds its own recognition.
The actor shared her views during an interaction with Zoom TV while promoting De De Pyaar De 2, in which she stars alongside Ajay Devgn. The film received a mixed response from audiences and critics and reportedly earned around Rs 105 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 150 crore.
Reflecting on how publicity strategies have evolved, Rakul expressed discomfort with aggressive PR tactics and narratives that rely on pulling others down. Calling out such practices, she said, “We all have to do a little bit of PR. We have to have a little presence. And there are some people who even go to the extent of bashing other people. I mean, how negative can you be in life? How do you sleep with yourself? My biggest question is that. And I feel like good work, God is there. God will see. Good karma gets back good karma. It gives you rewards. And I come from that school of thought. My mind doesn’t naturally run on PR."
Beyond publicity, Rakul also touched upon the constant pressure actors face to appear presentable in public and for paparazzi appearances. She admitted that she does not place excessive importance on how often or how perfectly she is photographed, sharing a personal anecdote to make her point. “My mother calls me sometimes, what are you wearing? You got papped in those same jeans fifth time this month. So like people make an effort every time they go out. How are the paps come here? Sometimes you’re dressed and sometimes you’re not. And it’s okay. So, I just feel that don’t put so much pressure on yourself."
Despite the surrounding chatter, Rakul remains focused on her upcoming projects and the work ahead. She will next be seen in Mudassar Aziz’s Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Wamiqa Gabbi. She is also part of Indian 3, the long-delayed sequel starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Shankar, which was earlier expected to release during Christmas 2025.
In addition, Rakul will be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of Ramayana, where she plays the role of Surpanakha. The multi-starrer epic is slated to hit theatres on Diwali 2026, adding another significant chapter to her evolving career.
