Dhurandhar 2: JioHotstar acquires streaming rights, music label changes
JioHotstar has acquired the streaming rights for Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge.' Other than OTT, there has been a shift in music labels as well.
Ever since Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar started streaming on Netflix, it has been ruling the platform’s charts. However, the sequel to Aditya Dhar directorial titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge will see a significant shift in streaming rights.
The first poster of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, released on Tuesday morning and clearly reveals JioHotstar as the film’s streaming partner. The film is slated to hit theatres on March 19 and is already among the most anticipated releases of the year.
A source close to the development told India Today that streaming rights are often finalised through competitive bidding. While Netflix secured the deal for the first installment, JioHotstar has bagged the rights for the second film at a higher financial value. “Dhurandhar 2 is highly awaited by fans and has already been declared a blockbuster by traders. Given the buzz and interest around the film, it’s obvious that all platforms would’ve wanted it in their library. JioHotstar clearly beat Netflix to it this time,” the source said.
Given the standard eight-week window between theatrical release and streaming debut, the sequel is likely to start streaming on JioHotstar by May 14.
And that’s not the only change. The film’s music rights have also changed hands. While Saregama released the soundtrack for the first installment, T-Series has acquired the music rights for Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Also starring Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna and R Madhavan, Dhurandhar rose to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films. The part 2 teaser will drop today at 12:12 pm.
