Mayur Vihar pocket-1 metro renamed: What changed and why
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has renamed Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 station as Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar. The change aims to reduce commuter confusion and reflect the area's cultural significance.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially renamed Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 Metro Station as ‘Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar’. The change has been confirmed by DMRC, and the updated name will soon be reflected across metro signage, maps, and digital platforms.
NAME CHANGE AIMED AT REDUCING COMMUTER CONFUSION
According to sources, the renaming was carried out to address frequent confusion among passengers due to the presence of similarly named metro stations in the Mayur Vihar area, including Pocket-1 and Phase-1/Phase-2 stations. Commuters, especially first-time travellers and visitors, often found it difficult to differentiate between stations.
DEMAND RAISED BY BJP LEADERS
Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and local representatives had reportedly urged DMRC to rename the station. They argued that associating the station with the nearby Shri Ram Mandir would help establish a clearer identity and reflect the cultural significance of the area.
DECISION TAKEN ON STATE NAMES AUTHORITY RECOMMENDATION
Sources said the renaming was approved following a recommendation by the State Names Authority (SNA). The SNA is a 29-member body under the Delhi government, chaired by the Chief Minister. It is responsible for approving the naming or renaming of roads, parks, colonies, and other geographical locations in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, excluding areas under MCD and NDMC jurisdictions.
DMRC TO UPDATE MAPS AND SYSTEMS
DMRC has stated that the new station name will be updated in a phased manner across metro route maps, station signboards, public announcement systems, and mobile applications to ensure a smooth transition for commuters.
