Yediyurappa steps down as Karnataka CM: Will BJP be able to placate Lingayats?

Soon after BS Yediyurappa resigned as the Karnataka chief minister, his supporters in his hometown Shikaripura in Shivamogga district shut down all shops and commercial establishments.

A prominent Lingayat community member, Yediyurappa has been known as the face of Karnataka BJP. His resignation as the chief minister seems to have upset many in his bastion.

So, will BJP be able to placate Lingayats? Can Karnataka BJP survive without Yediyurappa? And will BJP opt for more strident Hindutva in Karnataka?
