Wine shops reopen in Chennai, locals protest

The Tamil Nadu state-owned liquor shops have reopened in the city and its sprawling suburbs. The state govt has issued a notification informing that the liquor shops will be opened between 10 am to 7 pm. It further said only 500 customers will be allowed to buy liquor in a day.

The liquor shops opened on May 7 also during lockdown but were soon closed again on govt orders amid rising Covid cases.

Meanwhile, reopening of wine shops has triggered protest in the city. Residents of Anna Nagar staged a protest demanding closure of liquor shops.
