For the first time in 45 years, the waters of Yamuna River have reached the walls of Taj Mahal in Agra. This occurrence was triggered by heavy rains that caused a surge in the river's water level.
The rising waters touched the walls of the Taj Mahal, a sight unseen since 2010 and the floods of 1978.
Despite the alarm this situation has raised, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has reassured that the Taj Mahal's ingenious design prevents water from entering the main structure, even during high floods. This resilience is attributed to meticulous planning that ensures the monument can withstand such events.Â
However, the rising water levels have also highlighted the ongoing issue of pollution in the Yamuna River. The polluted waters have been identified as a significant threat to the Taj Mahal, contributing to its discoloration and decay.Â
