Delhi government has decided to ban firecrackers in Delhi in light of the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases reportedly owing to air pollution in the national capital. The decision was announced by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal less than 10 days ahead of the festival of Diwali.
Earlier this week, the National Green Tribunal issued a notice to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and four state governments in this regard. The NGT has sought a response from the Centre and the four states on whether firecrackers can be banned from November 7 to November 30.
