Actor Varalaxmi on Gurmehar row: Strong women terrify society

India Today spoke to Varalaxmi Sarathkumar who, like Gurmehar Kaur, took to social media to talk about a personal ordeal - the issue of casting couch in the south Indian film industry.

However, unlike Gurmehar, who has received rape threats following her social media campaign against the ABVP, Varalaxmi's has been a positive experience.

The south Indian actress has thrown her weight behind Gurmehar and in a conversation with India Today, said social media users in India need to be taught how to use the medium.

She goes on to add that women should not be afraid of speaking out on social media and should stand up for themselves.
