Rescue ops at Uttarkashi tunnel stopped again as drill gets stuck in debris

The rescue operation at the site of the collapsed tunnel in Uttrkashi came to a halt again on Saturday after the blades of the augering machine drilling through the rubble stuck in the debris. The 41 workers who got trapped when the tunnel collapsed have been stuck inside for 13 days now. 

Officials are now shifting focus to two alternatives --- manual drilling through the remaining 10 or 12 metre stretch of the rubble or drilling down 86 metres from above.

Meanwhile, BSNL set up a landline facility to keep the trapped workers connected with their family members.
