India Today sting operation has exposed an intensifying drug menace in Bihar. The prohibition imposed by the Nitish Kumar government has witnessed a spurt in consumption of banned drugs.
The sale of drugs in the state has gone up by 700 per cent. It is not just the areas of the state bordering Nepal, but even main cities of Bihar that are in the grip of this deadly menace.
The India Today investigation has found the collateral damage that prohibition in the state has inflicted.
Sample these scary statistics. In 2016, more than 382 kilos of cannabis (ganja) was seized in Bihar. But in the 4 months of 2017 alone after prohibition came into force, the amount confiscated has already crossed 7,000 kilos.
The ban has led to cross-border smuggling and spurt in black marketing of alcohol. Even underage sellers of cannabis have been spotted at pan shops.
