TTD Silk Dupatta Scam: Vigilance Uncovers Rs 54 Crore Fraud; Polyester Sold As Silk For 10 Years

A massive fraud has surfaced at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) involving fake silk dupattas. Vigilance officers uncovered that a contractor supplied polyester dupattas billed as 100% silk between 2015 and 2025. The scam is estimated at Rs 54 crore, with 15,000 dupattas supplied at Rs 1,389 each. Lab tests by the Central Silk Board confirmed the material was polyester. TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu has ordered a special vigilance inquiry into the decade-long fraud.
