Temperatures drop after north India witnesses winter's first rainfall

North India received its first spell of winter rain, leading to a drop in daytime temperatures. The national capital saw light rains in many parts of the city, while Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh witnessed isolated spells of rainfall. The showers affected rail and air traffic and the Met Department predicted more rain in the region during the upcoming days. Day and night temperatures are expected to fall significantly from January 9 with the days between January 10 and January 12 expected to mark this year's coldest period.
