A tableau from the Indian council and Agricultural Research (ICAR) department was among the special attractions during the parade on the theme âInternational year of millets 2023â as India is the largest producer of millet in the world with an annual production of around 10 million tonnes. It is followed by Niger, China and Mali, in terms of millet production in the world.Â
The government spearheaded the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution to declare the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets and the proposal was supported by 72 countries. UNGA declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets in March 2021.
