Supreme Court defers decision on Justice KM Josph's elevation to apex court

The Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday deferred the decision on Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice KM Joseph's name for elevation as a judge of the top court.

The Collegium, which comprises Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, met today for close to 50 minutes after the working hours.

Collegium had recommended Justice Joseph's name for Supreme Court judge.

The Collegium is understood to have discussed threadbare the note sent by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad while returning the file on the recommendation to elevate Justice Joseph as a Supreme Court judge.
