Sonam Wangchuk's NGO foreign fund licence cancelled day after Ladakh violence

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has cancelled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration for Sonam Wangchuk's NGO, alleging misuse of foreign funds. The government action is based on a detailed report suggesting violations of FCRA norms. Following this, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) may also initiate an investigation into potential violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), which could lead to questions of money laundering. Sonam Wangchuk has denied all charges against him. Responding to the crackdown, he stated, "I think me being in jail will awaken the country more than me being outside." ED sources have indicated that action against the NGO could be taken soon, escalating the scrutiny on its financial activities.
