Selection meeting for 2 new Election Commissioners on March 14

A selection meeting for two new Election Commissioners will take place on Thursday (March 14). The appointments are to fill the vacancies created after the resignation of former Election Commissioner Arun Goel and the retirement of former Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey.

The meeting will take place on Thursday afternoon at the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The appoinments have to be carried out by Friday (March 15).

The surprise announcement on March 9 by Goel came just days before the Election Commission of India is expected to announce the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. 

As a result of the vacancies, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is now the sole member of the poll body.
