SC imposes Rs 1 lakh fine on 8 political parties for not disclosing criminal records of candidates

The Supreme Court has imposed Rs 1 lakh fine on eight political parties, including BJP, JDU, RJD and Congress, for not disclosing the criminal records of their candidates.

In a step towards decriminalising politics, the Supreme Court directed that political parties must publish the criminal antecedents of candidates within 48 hours of their selection.
