In a controversial statement on India Today, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan claimed that India was âcompletely defeatedâ on the first day of Operation Sindoor. Speaking to the network, the senior Congress leader alleged that the Indian Air Force was âgroundedâ and aircraft were shot down during the conflict. Chavan stated, âIn the half-hour aerial engagement that took place on the 7th, we were fully defeated.â He further alleged that Pakistan was supported by âChinese intelligenceâ during the operation. Despite the backlash, Chavan refused to apologise, asserting it is his âconstitutional right to ask questions.â The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemned the remarks, accusing the Congress of demoralising the armed forces. India Todayâs Omkar Wabale reported that the comments have sparked a massive political controversy in Maharashtra.
