PM Modi welcomed with traditional Bhojpuri musical art form in Mauritius

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm and culturally rich welcome in Mauritius with a performance of Geet Gawai, a traditional Bhojpuri musical art form. Geet Gawai is a cherished part of Mauritius' cultural heritage, brought to the island by women from India's Bhojpuri-speaking regions. The musical ensemble, deeply rooted in Bhojpuri traditions, reflects the history and legacy of Indian indentured laborers who migrated to Mauritius. Recognising its cultural importance, UNESCO inscribed Geet Gawai on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2016.
