Portugal supports inclusion of India as UNSC permanent member: IPU president Duarte Pacheco

Duarte Pacheco, the president of the International parliamentary body IPU, addressed Indian MPs on Tuesday in the Central Hall of parliament. The president of the Geneva-headquartered Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) is on India visit from March 14-20 on the invitation of Parliament of India.

During his address, Duarte Pacheco said Portugal supports the inclusion of India as the permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

"India is largest democracy of the world and in all levels, from local to national, is looking to be more inclusive with more women and young people. India respects convictions, political & religions, of each person. In UN, Portugal supports the reform process and the inclusion of India as a permanent member of the Security Council," Duarte Pacheco said.
