Population policy being used as a political weapon? 

The population control policy debate has divided the BJP's allies and critics too. While the JDU sees the solution to India's population explosion as awareness and education, the NCP's Sharad Pawar has endorsed the need for strict measures to control the population.

Since UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled the population policy for his state on World Population Day, many states are mulling similar population control policies. Meanwhile, many are questioning the timing of unveiling the population policy just months ahead of the crucial UP assembly polls.

So, is population policy being used as a political weapon?
