Political ploy or justice for Muslim women? Triple talaq ordinance sparks debate

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind gave his approval to make instant triple talaq a criminal offence. An Ordinance was passed by Cabinet on Wednesday to make instant triple talaq a punishable offence.

While many have hailed the decision as the need of the hour, the Opposition and many women activists have condemned the government's decision to make instant triple talaq a penal offence, calling it a "politicised move" without taking into consideration the complications it could pose to Muslim women.
