In a major political realignment ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has officially joined the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss met AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami in Chennai to formalise the pact. Confirming the move, Anbumani Ramadoss stated, 'The reason for us joining this alliance is to remove the corrupt and inefficient DMK government in Tamil Nadu.' The alliance, which also includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), aims to consolidate the anti-DMK vote bank. This development follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah's call to strengthen the NDA in the southern state. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has dismissed the opposition's moves, while the political landscape sees a new entrant in actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
