Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, February 17, slammed Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channiâs âUP, Bihar ke bhaiyaâ remark. He said that by making such statements the Congress is insulting the legacy of Sant Ravidas.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday said: âDon't let UP, Bihar ke bhaiya enter Punjab.â While he made the remark, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi could be seen standing by him smiling and applauding.
Speaking at a rally in Punjabâs Rupnagar on Thursday, Modi condemned the remark and said: âWas Sant Ravidasji born in Punjab? He was born in Uttar Pradeshâs Varanasi and you [Channi] say that you wonât let UPâs people enter Punjab. Will you drive out Sant Ravidas as well? Will you erase his name?â
Modi stepped up his attack by invoking Guru Gobind Singh as well. âGuru Gobind Singhji was born in Patna, Bihar. And they [Congress] say that they will drive out people of Bihar. Will you [people] tolerate this insult to Guru Gobind Singhji?â
