PM Modi announces creation of Chief of Defence Staff post

In a major development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced that the country will now have a post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) that will lead operations of the all the three forces-- the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.

The announcement was made on Thursday during PM Modi's Independence Day speech at the Red Fort, New Delhi.
