In this special report, the focus is on the landmark conclusion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal described the agreement as a 'game-changing and transformational visit in terms of the strategic partnership between the European Union and India.' He highlighted that the deal covers 25% of global trade and marks India's eighth FTA under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
The agreement provides duty-free access for 99% of Indian exports, particularly benefiting labour-intensive sectors such as textiles, leather, and marine products. In return, India will open markets for European auto components, technology, and precision engineering.
Goyal emphasised that the partnership addresses economic asymmetries through transitional periods while ensuring stability and predictability for businesses. The deal is expected to foster deep strategic intent, strengthening cooperation in defence, innovation, and financial markets for the shared prosperity of nearly 2 billion people.
