The total number of suspended MPs from Parliament stands at 146 after 3 more Opposition MPs faced action on Thursday. Congress MPs Deepak Baij, Nakul Nath, DK Suresh were suspended from Lok Sabha earlier today.Â
Over 140 Opposition MPs have been suspended since December 14 over 'unruly conduct' during the functioning of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and raising slogans while demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 13Â Parliament security breach.
The suspension is unprecedented, with the highest number of lawmakers suspended from Parliament.Â
After the suspension of MPs, the Parliament today passed the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023. The Parliament also passed the Telecommunications Bill, 2023 which seeks to allow the government to temporarily take control of telecom services in the interest of national security, and provide a non-auction route for the allocation of satellite spectrum.Â
