Operation Kaveri: IAF, navy evacuate nearly 500 Indian nationals stranded in war-torn Sudan

286 Indian nationals were brought back from Sudan by waterways, 121 citizens were evacuated in the first batch of the Indian Air Force's evacuation, and 135 Indian nationals were brought back in the second batch. The evacuation, led by the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, is being carried out under 'Operation Kaveri'. 

So far, at least 459 people have been killed and more than 4,000 wounded, according to UN agencies, since April 15. The UN has repeatedly warned that the violence in Sudan, which flanks the Red Sea, Horn of Africa and Sahel regions, "risks a catastrophic conflagration ... that could engulf the whole region and beyond".
