Ahead of assembly polls in Bihar, the Nitish Kumar government has announced a series of welfare measures. The latest is a new commission, the Bihar Raj Safai Karamchari Aayog, for the upliftment and welfare of sanitation workers. This panel will consist of a chairman, a vice-chairman, and five members, including one woman, to empower backward class workers. This move follows other recent announcements such as a 35% job quota for women, 125 units of free electricity, the establishment of a Youth Commission, and an increase in pensions for the elderly from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100. A colleague noted, "Nitish Kumar is already in an election mode. And one after another, he is making announcement and making declarations for the people of Bihar, so that we could get some benefit of out of this from in the elections."
