Nayab Saini on Congress over wrestlers' row: Using athletes for politics

At the Panchayat AajTak Haryana 2024 event, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini tackled pressing issues, including the BJP’s defeat in five Lok Sabha seats, the concerns of farmers, and claims of neglect from the state's wrestlers.

Saini highlighted the progress Haryana has made under his leadership, emphasising that the last decade brought significant development across the state. “People understand that our intentions are honest,” he remarked, while acknowledging that some projects are still pending, but promised swift resolutions.

Addressing comments from wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who claimed she had not received support from the Haryana government, Saini offered clarification. He explained that plans were in place to honour Phogat, but the election model code of conduct caused delays. Saini also criticised the Congress for “using athletes for political gain.”

Despite the BJP’s losses in several seats, Saini expressed confidence that the state’s development record would continue to resonate with voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
