As the rescue operations to save 15 people trapped in a mine in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills were ramped up, India Today's Manogya Loiwal explains the challenges which the rescue team might face as they prepare to send divers inside the cave.
Special NDRF boats were being used by divers from the Indian navy to reach the bottom of the mine and put in an anchor so that the mine's rat hole passages could be entered into.
NDRF assistant commander Santosh Kumar Singh said, "Currently this is a joint operation with all resources from the central and state governments. The Indian Navy divers have joined our team and they are assessing the exact depth of water. Navy divers have a lot of experience in deep water diving so they are doing their best."
