In a horrific tragedy in Karnataka's Chitradurga district, nine people were burnt alive when a private bus caught fire after colliding with a truck. India Today's Head of South Bureau Nagarjun Dwarakanath reports that the accident occurred at 2 am when a truck driver allegedly fell asleep, crossed the divider, and rammed into the bus's fuel tank. The bus was travelling from Bengaluru to Gokarna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased.
