Armless teacher Gulshan Lohar writes with toes, teaches maths to kids

In an inspiring story from Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, Gulshan Lohar has defied all odds to become a mathematics teacher despite being born without arms. Appointed on a contractual basis in 2011 with the help of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), he teaches at the Baranga High School. Despite his physical challenges, he completed his B.Ed and M.Ed by travelling daily from his village. Lohar, who is paid Rs 139 per class, is a hero to his students and villagers, affectionately known as ‘Guruji’.
