A gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in Amshipora village of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday morning.
An official said that a joint team of Police, armyâs 62 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon them which was retaliated triggering an encounter.
A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of fire between forces and terrorists.
As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area. It is the second encounter between security forces and militants in the last 24 hours yesterday forces killed three Jaish militants in Kulgam. This comes at a time when defence minister Rajnath Singh in on two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
This year already security forces have killed 133 terrorists in different operations across J&K including top commanders of different terrorist groups in Kashmir.
