Is NPR backdoor entry for NRC?

The government is all set to carry out two mega exercises -- the Census and updating data of the National Population Register (NPR) -- across the country involving every resident next year.

The government on Tuesday approved nearly Rs 12,700 crore for carrying out the Census 2021 and updating the National Population Register (NPR), and made it clear that NPR has no relation with the contentious National Register of Citizens.

Meanwhile, the opposition parties alleged that the government was trying to link the NPR with the NRC and termed it draconian and against the secular credentials of the Constitution.
